US President Joe Biden called on Israel to “protect” Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which has become its main target in the battle to control the northern half of the Strip.

Al-Shifa Hospital is considered the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip and in all of Palestine. It is being bombed and surrounded by Israeli tanks, and its patients and premature babies face the risk of death due to the siege, fuel shortages, electricity outages, and continuous bombing, according to Ministry of Health officials in Gaza.

In his first statements since the events of the beginning of the week – including the death of dozens of patients at Al-Shifa Hospital – Biden told reporters at the White House when asked whether he expressed his concern to Israel regarding this issue, “The hospital must be protected.”

He added that he hopes and expects that there will be “less intrusive measures regarding hospitals, and we will remain in contact with the Israelis.”

Biden, Blinken and Austin sued

The Center for Constitutional Rights in the United States has filed a lawsuit against US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on charges of providing unconditional support for the genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The 89-page lawsuit traced 75 years of history, analyzing actions committed by the Israeli government and its rhetoric that show a disregard for international law, and accompanied by a declaration from a genocide expert describing Israel’s actions as signs of genocide and saying that the Biden administration has abandoned Its duty to prevent genocide under international law.The Center – which is concerned with civil liberties – says that the prolonged Israeli occupation of Palestine, the siege imposed on Gaza, and the support provided by the United States created appropriate conditions for genocide committed by Israel.

This lawsuit – which the Center filed on behalf of Palestinian organizations, Palestinians in Gaza, and American citizens with relatives in Gaza – came as one of the Biden administration’s responsibilities is to prevent genocide in accordance with international laws and norms, according to the indictment document.

According to the lawsuit filed before a federal court in San Francisco, California, the defendants repeatedly refused to use their clear and significant influence to set conditions or limits for the major Israeli bombing despite mounting evidence of Israeli policies directed towards causing mass harm to the Palestinian population in Gaza.

America did not demand a ceasefire to save lives and lift the siege, but rather used its veto power against United Nations measures calling for a ceasefire, in contrast to the overwhelming international support for the resolution.
